LGBTQIA+ Affirming Counselling in Dublin 9

Finding a counsellor who understands and respects your identity can make a meaningful difference to your experience of therapy. At D9 Therapy & Wellness in Santry, Dublin 9, we offer access to therapists with experience and interests in LGBTQIA+ related concerns, identity, sexuality and relationships.

Counselling should be a space where you feel comfortable being yourself, without needing to explain, defend or justify who you are. Whether you are exploring your identity, navigating relationships, dealing with difficult experiences or simply looking for someone to talk to, the right therapeutic support can help.

What is LGBTQIA+ affirming counselling?

LGBTQIA+ affirming counselling recognises and respects the diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities and relationship experiences. It aims to provide a supportive environment where people can explore their feelings and experiences without judgement or assumptions.

Therapy is not about changing someone's identity or sexuality. Instead, it can offer an opportunity to understand yourself better, work through challenges and develop confidence in your own experiences.

What can counselling help with?

People seek counselling for many different reasons. LGBTQIA+ individuals may want support with:

  • Exploring sexuality, gender identity or personal identity
  • Coming out and navigating reactions from others
  • Family relationships and acceptance
  • Dating, intimacy and romantic relationships
  • Self-esteem, confidence and self-acceptance
  • Anxiety, low mood and emotional wellbeing
  • Experiences of discrimination, rejection or isolation
  • Understanding boundaries and relationship diversity
  • Life transitions and changes in identity or relationships

You do not need to be experiencing a particular difficulty to attend counselling. Sometimes having a confidential space to talk and reflect can be valuable in itself.
